Are you a Cultural Christian?

     I am currently re-reading Real Christianity by William Wilberforce and he talks about the state of Christianity and cultural Christians. In his book Wilberforce describes a cultural Christian as one who: Believe themselves to be a good person and are against bad things, your faith is adequate. May not be a Christian, just a moral person. You know some of the basic facts of Christianity but have no idea how those facts should apply to your life. No understanding of what constitutes authentic faith. You believe your Christian because your family is. When questioning or challenged about your faith you abandon your "inherited" faith you are unable to defend. Think one's faith is a private matter and should not be spoken of so publicly. Everything is subjective. Your conduct is not measured against the standard set by the gospel. You do not read or study your Bible. The content of the Bible is a mystery to you. What is the Beginning of Wisdom

   The title of this blog comes from the book Real Christianity by William Wilberforce. In his book in chapter four he discusses what the beginning of wisdom is: "The problem that we see in our time is that because there is so little reverence for or sense of the holiness of God, we have no basis on which to take sin seriously. It is the understanding of the greatness of God that creates in the human heart the desire to please him in all things and tries not to offend Him in anything. Such an attitude knows no arbitrary levels of offense. This is why such an attitude is called "the beginning of wisdom" in the Bible (Ps.111:10; see also Prov. 1.7)    It is my hope that in creating this blog I can honor God in what I write and hope to help others that may struggle with the same things I do.
